The holiday season is upon us, but in-between all the shopping and festive cheer, it's important to keep in mind that giving back is what's most important. We here at M caught up with Pretty Little Liars star Ashley Benson, who has partnered with PayPal to celebrate #GivingTuesday. She told us all about the many charities she's involved with and how just being there to give back to those who need a little cheering up simply means so much to her.
"I'm really into charity, especially at this time of year and I work with all the charities myself. PayPal partnered with GoFundMe and I have a page up and my GoFundMe is for Wags and Walks which is a charity my friend Lesley started, and it's an amazing organization that is all about rescuing dogs," Ashley said exclusively to M. Usually this time of year, every year I go to the children's hospital, that's one of my favorite things to do. I love kids. I've been there with my cast, with friends and we just get a bunch of toys and books and spend at least two or three hours there hanging out with all the kids, and I love having that one on one time with the. It's one of my favorite things to do, get to them know them and they're obviously going through a lot so if we can go there for a few hours and make the smile and help them forget about their sickness for a little while, that's why I do it."
How amazing is that? Ashley has a strong social media following, thanks to all of her devoted fans, and she wants everyone to know that they can do anything, no matter how big or small to help others. The best advice she has: just get out there and volunteer your time, because there is nothing more precious than that.
"When I was younger, 16, 17 years old, I used to go to homeless shelters all the time, and bring toys, clothes food and just taking one day out of your week to help other people's needs," she told us. "Just going to a soup kitchen, or a hospital, a homeless shelter, just give your time, especially if you don't have money to give. Your presence is enough and I feel it makes an even bigger difference since you're right here, changing people's lives and you can see it for yourself."
Now that is some motivation right there!
