When it comes to fame, there are a lot of perks: attending red carpet premieres, getting access to the latest fashions and racking up more Instagram followers than you can keep track of. However, being in the spotlight does not mean that you're guaranteed a perfect life. In fact, some stars have even opened up about how they have developed insecurities since becoming famous. Take Selena Gomez, for example.
In a recent interview, the Disney Channel alum spoke about the premiere of the Netflix show she executive produced with her mother, 13 Reasons Why – which is based off the 2007 best-selling young-adult novel by author Jay Asher.
Selena connected so much with the book when she read it a number of years ago, and her passion for the story derives from the fact that she has dealt with personal issues herself.
“About eight years ago when I first read the book, I saw myself as Hannah in a lot of ways. Now eight years later, which is funny, because the older I get, the more insecure I am. It’s backwards. I relate to Hannah more than ever now. I understand what it’s like to be bullied, to feel lost, to feel like I’m not good enough. I know all those feelings . . . I’ve [since] learned there’s power deep down inside yourself, and you can find it when you don’t give up on yourself and when you ask for help.”
Selena isn't the only one in Hollywood who has been faced with similar feelings. In fact, her fellow Disney Channel friend Demi Lovato has experienced her fair share of insecurities, which almost led her to putting an end to her music and acting career.
