China McClain's career is clearly on fire right now: you can currently catch her voicing Freddie in Descendants: Wicked World and soon she'll be bringing the new character Uma to life in Descendants 2 – but she was just announced as the lead role of a new and totally different project! China was cast as Jennifer Pierce in the CW drama pilot Black Lightning alongside Nafessa Williams, Deadline reports. That's right: she's entering the DC Universe!
"Written by Akil and Brock Akil, based on the DC character created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden, and to be directed by Akil, Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce (Williams)," according to the site. "He made his choice: He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter, Jennifer (McCain) hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning."
China "plays Jefferson’s younger daughter, the teenage Jennifer Pierce, an independent, outspoken scholar-athlete with a wild streak of her own," according to the report.
The actress was so excited to share the news with her fans, and we don't blame her! This is a really big project.
