Cole Sprouse's return to television as Jughead Jones on Riverdale has totally been worth the wait for his longtime fans. He's playing a beloved character from the Archie comics universe in a completely new way, plus he looks a tad bit different than how you're used to seeing him. Gone are Cole's golden locks and instead, he has had to dye his hair jet black. He happens to wear a crown-shaped beanie most of the time too, so Jughead definitely has a specific vibe to him.
In the season one finale episode, fans saw Jughead try on his dad's leather jacket after the Serpents come to see Juggy and let him know they have his back, since his dad is currently in jail. Between the cap and leather jacket, it's no secret Jughead has had some rather memorable looks this season and Cole has taken to Twitter to everyone know just where Jughead's true inspo comes from: The Spongebob Squarepants Movie.
Cole liked a tweet from actress Kennedy Lea Slocum that points out the connections, basically letting us know that we have the sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea and all of Bikini Bottom to thank for Jughead's ever-changing style and character development.
Who would've guessed?! OK, so obviously Kennedy and Cole are just joking around, but it is pretty amazing to see the similarities between these two shows that you wouldn't normally think to connect together. When season two rolls around, we'll just have to wait and see if Jughead ends up channeling more moments from the Nickelodeon cartoon. Something to keep an eye out for.
