Demi Lovato is an outspoken body image advocate, and she's continuing her mission to improve the self-esteem of Lovatics everywhere. She's even channeling her campaign into her own birthday wish!
Demi turns 21 on August 20 of this year, and she wants one thing for her birthday: A Barbie doll. While that may sound silly or like something a little kid would ask for, Demi wants a special Barbie doll for a great reason: She wants a Barbie doll that looks like her, with her own proportions, to show that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
She tweeted about her birthday wish, writing:
1 of my biggest dreams, having collected Barbies since I was a kid, is to have my own Barbie BUT with my actual body type.. Weight & height— demetria lovato (@ddlovato) June 10, 2013
She then encouraged her beloved Lovatics to tweet at Mattel, the makers of Barbie, to encourage the Demi doll to be made:
Lovatics!!! Blow up @barbiestyle to make it happen!!!! That would be one dope 21st birthday!! Hahaha 😝🎂— demetria lovato (@ddlovato) June 10, 2013
Also, Barbie should make dolls with cellulite!!! Hahaha!!! After all, around 95% of ALL women have it!!! 😝😊— demetria lovato (@ddlovato) June 10, 2013
This isn't the first time Demi has come out in support of a body image-friendly Barbie doll. When a fan threw a doll at her onstage last year when she was on tour, she gave a speech about how she struggled to look like a Barbie doll for years. You can watch that below, along with a performance of "Skyscraper."
Do you agree that Mattel should make Barbie dolls that have cellulite? Do you think Barbie should reflect real women's body types and shapes? Do you support Demi's birthday wish? Tell us in the comments!
