Ross Lynch, who was recently caught smooching Courtney Eaton, stars on the hit Disney Channel series Austin & Ally as Austin Moon, but he's made it clear from the get-go that even before acting, his first love has always been music. In a new interview, Ross opens up about what it's like being a Disney star and he gets super candid about the difficulty that comes with signing a contract with the House of Mouse.
"When you're a part of the Disney family per se, they do kind of give you guidelines," Ross admitted. "But I actually don't think the rebelling is because you were a part of Disney. I don't think that's it."
"People start to think that because you come from Disney that you're a certain way, or people just perceive you in a certain light that a lot of people don't want to be perceived as," he continued.
"When you come out of Disney, you have a certain perception that people think of you, and I think that's just what people want to break, and they just do it with extreme measures."
It's possible Ross could be alluding to Disney alums Joe Jonas, who wrote a tell-all article about DC, Miley Cyrus, who broke out of her Disney shell in a pretty public and extreme way, and Demi Lovato, who has been very outspoken about the pressures of being a Disney queen.
"You are perceived to be such an angel and really you're just an actor that booked a job. But everyone thinks that's who you are, like they found you. They like raised you. But really, it's just a good job," he said.
We have to admit — Ross has a very valid point. At the end of the day, he's just an actor with an opportunity to get paid. Does that mean he's necessarily just like his character? Probably not. Either way, we still love both Austin and Ross!
"I've managed to keep myself sane by my other hobbies," he revealed. "I'm getting my pilot's license right now. I eventually want to get a motorcycle. Certain things like that. I'm kind of an adrenaline junkie. I also play hockey."
And when hockey, planes, motorcycles, and all else fails, Ross has four other siblings (and his super supportive parents!) to lean on.
"I have a good family too, and we all keep each other grounded," he said.
