At the young age of 20-years-old, Dove Cameron has quite the long resume. Since Liv & Maddie alone required Dove to play two characters at once, she was more than prepared to take on the role of Mal in Descendants and the upcoming sequel Descendants 2. It's no secret to any Disney Channel fan that this girl can perform her heart out, but she'll soon show the whole world what she can do when she taking on the role of Amber Von Tussle in the highly anticipated NBC special Hairspray Live!.
Despite the fact that Dove's double roles as the Rooney twins whipped her into tip-top shape for future projects, there was a time where Dove was seriously doubtful. It was a lot to balance, and it seriously took a toll on her.
"Right when Liv and Maddie had started, there was no roadmap for how to do a show where one girl played two," Dove said in a recent interview. "It’s just not something that is often done, so we had nothing to refer to. Before we really figured out a rhythm and a way to get through it—and have me be alive at the end of the day—it was a long period of time where I was really struggling with the energy, and the workload, and shooting everything twice, then recording on the weekends, and still sleeping, and having a social life."
Ugh, poor Dove!
"There was definitely a time when I [told] my mom, 'I literally think I’m not capable of doing this. I do not think I will survive this. I think I am going to let all of Disney Channel down. They trusted me with this, and I seriously think I am going to cost them millions of dollars and pull out of this show.'"
The fact that Dove stuck with the show and didn't give up not only proves how great of an actress she is, but it's also a testament to her driven personality. It's sad to know Dove ever went through this struggle, but it makes everyone that much more appreciative of her work. Take it from Dove, and never give up!
