Emma Watson has some advice for when you feel left out, alone or just plain overwhelmed: Express yourself!
The actress sat down with Rookie and explained that keeping journals and diaries, as well as painting and drawing, have helped her out a lot when she's felt less than awesome.
Emma doesn't just keep one diary, though: She organizes her thoughts into a bunch of different ones depending on what's on her mind. "I keep a dream diary, I keep a yoga diary, I keep diaries on people that I've met and things that they've said to me, advice that they've given me," she revealed. "I keep an acting journal. I keep collage books."
Why does Emma love her journals so much? She explained, "They've given me a place in which I can figure myself out, because those kinds of ideas feel too personal to put out into the public or even discuss with anyone else. It allows me to get things out of my head and work them out in a way that feels safe, which is really helpful."
She added, "I think your thoughts are so much less frightening ... when you can see them on a page in front of you."
And if you're nervous to start a diary or a drawing from a blank page? She has advice for that too!
"I had an art teacher who said that there is nothing scarier than a blank canvas. Before he gave us our canvases he'd scribble or splash paint on them so that we didn't have to work off this intimidating white space," she said. "I think there's something to be said for that."
Hear that, girls? When it doubt, doodle it out!
