If you think back to the initial pilot of MTV's hit TV series Awkward., you'll realize just how much has changed for Palos Hills High. First Jenna was alone and painstakingly awkward, then she was awkward but with Matty on her arm, then Jake, then Matty again, and then some other random dudes whose names we don't need to disclose because the only real relaysh that matters is Matty & Jenna. (We're not personally invested or anything...)
But the one thing that has been maintained throughout the past four seasons of Jenna's journey is that palpable, relatable, and unforgettable awkwardness. And while things are TOTALLY different than they were when we first met Jenna and her classmates, somehow, the levels of awkward are still the same in season five.
M chatted with Greer Grammer, who plays Lissa — Sadie's righthand woman — on the show and she dished all about the series' final season, her character, and just how much life has changed since the first time we met Jenna and her friends.
"I love the characters. I love that they’ve grown but they are all still kind of the same... people," Greer dishes EXCLUSIVELY to M.
"People change but they are still themselves. I love the silliness and fast language of some of the characters and the funny words," she reveals.
Since many of Greer's scenes are acting opposite the character of Sadie, we had to ask her thoughts on the most passionate and articulate bully in school.
"Sadie is still Sadie even when her and Lissa aren’t together they know each other better than anyone else and they’ve remained pretty much the same throughout," Greer says. "I love Sadie as a character."
"She’s so funny and she’s totally just her. I love when we get to see her insecurities that come out but even when they do, it’s still her. The dynamic between her and Lissa is always very interesting. Sadie treats Lissa badly but that’s what I like about seeing the give and take relationship," she continues.
"We get to have those really nice moments where they have these great connections and why they are friends and how Sadie will always bring Lissa back up when she’s down, she’s the first person she calls!" Greer admits.
