If you have been watching (or binging, perhaps) the new Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, then you know that it is definitely the opposite of a light-hearted show. The book to movie adaptation is a super intense drama that deals with seriously heavy topics that teens sadly face in real life. If you think watching it is hard, imagine how the cast felt while creating the project. Leading lady Katherine Langford, in particular, found something lift her spirits after a long day of shooting scenes that could be quite emotionally grueling.
"I watched a lot of The Office, but I didn't get to go home until we were well and truly done, so," the actress said in a recent interview.
So there you have it – watching her fave funny show was the trick to boosting Katherine's mood.
The somber material of the show wasn't the only struggle for Katherine though. Given the fact that she is from Australia, the star did not have the opportunity to really separate herself from set. The Aussie's co-star Dylan Minnette, on the other hand, had the ability to take a break and go home at times.
"Poor Katherine's from Australia, so she had no chance to go home and take a break. We filmed in Northern California, I lived in LA," Dylan said. "I would escape for 24 hours at a time and go and Katherine was stuck."
"It's cool," Katherine replied.
"In a beautiful place," Dylan added.
Besides watching The Office, Katherine also found music very soothing to lean on during the duration of filming.
"For me, what kind of eased it was that when I got there we had to find locations to live and inhabit for the next six months. The first thing that I put in my apartment was a piano. I bought one for $50 and it was a lifesaver because I just went home and played and played… I'm sure I annoyed everyone on the same floor," Katherine revealed.
We're glad Katherine found her happy places, if you will, while shooting the incredibly intense series. Lucky for her, she was surrounded by a super close cast. In fact, some of them recently got matching tattoos to commemorate the show. All we know is we are truly keeping our fingers crossed for that possible second season that's been discussed.
