Kelsea Ballerini ha been slaying the country world lately, between her hit debut album, The First Time and heading out on tour with the iconic group, Rascal Flatts. We recently saw the songstress in concert on the Rhythm and Roots Tour, and she not only sang all your fave jams from her album, but even threw in a cool little medley of covers, including Justin Bieber's "Sorry" and One Republic's "Apologize." Kelsea let M come hang out on her tour bus before she performed and told us all about how she's completely focused on her next album, and dished all about her friendship with the one and only Taylor Swift.
"I'm all in [the seconds album] right now, it's totally where my head's at. We've cut six songs so far, and I'm just writing right now," Kelsea said to M. "Even with the songs that we have were like is this the direction? We're not really sure yet. It covers two years which is not a lot of time, but my life has changed so drastically in these two years, and personally too. I got out of a relationship, so I think half of it is going to be a breakup record and half of it is going to be a life record. I'm really excited about that."
And if there's anyone who knows how to craft up the perfect album after dealing with heartbreak, it's Kelsea's BFF Taylor. The girls have really gotten close the last few years and the superstar has even given Kelsea some much needed advice that centers around staying true to yourself, something Taylor has always done.
"Really early on when her and I started hanging out and becoming friends, I was still on my radio tour and I think for a while, I was trying to be cool because I thought being cool was winning, and being on the radio, and getting nominations, things like that. And I just wasn't," Kelsea exclusively told us. "She said it's going to feel like cool wins sometimes because that's just the way of the world but if you're just true to yourself and you are funny, quirky and just be you, then you're going to be happy with that and in the long run that will be what always works for you. And it was just a really good reminder. As soon as I just let myself simply be my true self, make funny faces, and not second guess myself and think 'oh why did I just say that?' and just let myself be me, I was just happier."
OK so it's official, Taylor really is the most awesome friend to have who will always have your back and dish out some much-needed life wisdom. Of course we had to ask the "Dibs" singer what it's like being around the true stars of the Swift family, Taylor's cats Meredith and Olivia.
"I'm not a cat person honestly! One of them likes me, and one of them doesn't. Olivia likes me, but Meredith is just there with her little feet, sitting. But for me who's not a cat person to have one of them who likes me is a win," Kelsea said.
Well, it's good to know Meredith lives up to her reputation for being the sassiest diva-cat there ever was.
