Matthew Espinosa's fans might have come to know and love him from his Vines and YouTube videos, but his first-ever full-length movie, Be Somebody has arrived, and he's ready for his fans to see him the way he's always wanted to be known as: simply an actor.
"Honestly, before Vine and social media, it's always been a huge thing in my life to want to be an actor," Matthew said exclusively to M. "I've done plays since I was in the fifth grade, so when social media and Vine started to come along, I looked at it as a sort of door opening for me to become an actor. So I think Vine has a huge, huge, HUGE step for me to take into acting. Vine was a very big deal."
Matthew's dream was to star in movies and TV shows and with the release of "Be Someday," which co-stars Descendants' Sarah Jeffery, he's taking the first step in accomplishing this goal, something he said those closest to him are just beyond ecstatic to see.
"[My family is] very proud of me. They're proud that I'm able to put a movie out especially at this age. And I had private screening in my hometown theater I always went to when I was growing up and a lot of my family came," Matthew shared. "They said they really liked the movie, I mean I hope they didn't lie to me! But it was cool because I had people like my kindergarten teacher was there, a priest of mine who was a huge mentor and there was just so many people that growing up they seemed like family to me and still are. They said, 'We saw you've been doing this, but we just didn't know it would all happen for you so early, we're so proud of you.' It almost made me want to cry at the things they were saying and it showed me if you stay focused on your dream, the stars can align and you can achieve what you want."
Clearly this film means to much to him and he hopes it really impacts everyone who watches it too.
"I want people to take away that if they really focus on who they are and what they want to do in their life they really can do that regardless of what anyone else has to say. As cliche as it sounds, literally what the title is, be somebody," Matthew explained. "It's not about how many Twitter followers you have or how many subscribers on YouTube; it's about doing what you want to do and that you're somebody. I can be known by no one but if I'm doing what I love, I'm being somebody and doing my part as a human being by doing what I love."
Now that is a wise message!
