Strange Magic is a fun, new animated musical from Disney and LucasFilm that focuses on the magical world of goblins, fairies, imps, and what happens when a variety of mystical creatures are all brought together. We chatted with Meredith Anne Bull, the voice of Dawn, all about the magic that goes on behind the scenes.
"[The sisters'] hair has changed a lot since the beginning," Meredith reveals EXCLUSIVELY to M. "We used to have long, brown hair. It was red for a while and now it has ended up short and blonde!"
Believe it or not, a lot of hard work goes into creating a character's hair. It may look effortless on screen, but Meredith shares from personal experience that it's actually harder than it looks!
"There's a lot of work that goes into creating the hair of an animated character. There are actually groups of people where that's their only job, to do the animation of hair! That was really cool, learning that," Meredith admits.
Want another interesting secret from the sound booth? Apparently, it takes a lot to make the seemingly "ordinary" sounds you hear in the movie!
"There’s just a lot of really cool stuff [that our director] would show us — tricks and stuff to do when we were recording: Special effects with our mouths, or by chewing stuff. One time I watched Peter Stormare chew an entire pack of gum while he was trying to record!"
And get this: Not only are you usually alone when you record, but a lot of the time you don't have much to go off of: No photos of what your character looks like or any sort of animation to reference!
"For the first year of production, I really had no idea," Meredith reveals to M. "Sometimes they would have drawings, but other than that I just had to use my imagination of what was going on!"
