The girls of Little Mix have been together as a band for a little more than four years now and they've been through so much together. In a new interview, Jesy Nelson and Perrie Edwards spoke about when they were first getting used to being in the spotlight, they would often see hurtful comments about their appearances that threw them for a loop.
"I was shocked at the time. It used to make me cry," Jesy shared. "I was a young girl and I thought, 'What have I done to you? Why do you have to be mean to me? I'm not a nasty person and I took it to heart. Some of the things people said were disgusting. It really affected me."
That is just terrible, and is something Perrie struggled with too.
"At the beginning, I used to search 'Little Mix' and 'Perrie' online. You can read a thousand lovely comments about yourself and then one bad one sticks in your head forever," Perrie said. "It's like being at school with a group of really nasty people. Someone once wrote that I had 'cankles,' and now I have issues with my ankles. I think they are the biggest, chunkiest things in the world. If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't talk!"
Bullying is never OK and cyber-bullying is something that unfortunately too many people are dealing with on a daily basis. Luckily, Jesy and Perrie overcame these issues and have since learned to block out the haters, but this is something much easier said than done. No one should ever make someone else feel this way and if you're experiencing being bullied yourself, it's important to speak out about it to someone you trust.
