And as the saying goes, when one chapter closes, another one begins. Just as One Direction is beginning their reported two-year break, Zayn Malik is coming out of hiding and doing his first big solo interview with Fader. Not only that, but the publication has also released a video with Zayn that teases his new song, "Befour" which is playing in the background as Zayn speaks very candidly about his new life. And we must say, the feeling of the new song is much different than the way he sounded during his boy band days!
"Life experiences are just really big influences for the album. Stuff that I've been through, especially with the last five years and being in the band and everything," he said in the video.
He continued, "It's a nice feeling to come out of a place where you are being told what to do and to be a certain way because of certain expectations or certain things that people want to see. It is just all my perspective and that's fully liberating. This is what I want to do. I guess because I always knew."

Whoa! So basically, Zayn always knew 1D was never the right path for him?! We can't help but wonder if he is throwing some major shade at the experience he had while in the band or just reflecting on his emotions. Whatever it is, we have a feeling this new music will shed a whole different light on the Zayn we thought we knew.
He said, “I don’t feel like people really know what I’m going to give them, musically. And once they hear it, I feel like they will understand me a little bit more, and they’ll understand why I did what I did, and why I left the band, and why I had to write this [stuff] down. Because for five — not even for five years, for ten years, this album has been in my brain, and it’s just been there, sat with me, needing to be out.”
10 years is a long time! We're very curious to see what Zayn has in store for the world. We can only hope his former bandmates are supportive in just knowing Zayn seems to be at a pretty good place in his life right now!
