When Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez teased their new song collaboration on Instagram last week, fans freaked out! These two have been friends for awhile so working together on a song they are both passionate about only seemed natural. But, we didn't know how personal their song, "We Don't Talk Anymore" was to Selena.
In a recent interview, Charlie opened up about inspiration for the song and how everyone can relate, especially Sel.
"I remember a conversation I had had with my friend. He had just broken up with this girl, and I was like, ’So, are you going to talk to her anymore?’ And he was like, ’Nah, we don’t talk anymore.’ I was trying to cheer him up, so I did a dumb little face, and I was like, [singing] ’We don’t talk anymore.’ I was just trying to cheer him up, but it became a cool melody, and I realized that this guitar beat fit perfectly over it," he said.
Charlie admitted that he had wanted to show Selena the song because he knew she'd appreciate it.
"I met up with Selena, and she went through a very public relationship, on and off, and she could just relate to the song and the lyrical sentiment," he said. "I was playing the song for her, and she just started singing the second verse. I got chills. I was like, ’Oh my gosh, that sounds so real. You need to sing on it.’ And she said yes."
Okay, so that 'on and off relationship' Charlie is referring to MUST be Selena's relationship with Justin Bieber. Even though he doesn't say Justin's name, all signs point to that very public relationship. We can't help but wonder if Selena and Justin really don't talk anymore!
Recently, there has been lots of rumors that the two had started hanging out again. Justin has even been posting throwback photos of him and Selena which has everyone asking, "What Do You Mean?"
Regardless, we're glad Selena and Charlie have decided to work together because this song is awesome and it's so cool that Selena is so passionate about it. Music heals everything!
Are you surprised that Selena could relate so well? Let us know in the comments!
