In an era where girl squads like Taylor Swift's epic group of besties are ever so prominent, it is easy to forget that some starlets don't always have female friends by their sides. Just take Demi Lovato, for example. In a recent an interview, the Disney Channel alum opened up about why she only surrounded herself with males for most of her teenage life.
"In my work environment, I used to only surround myself with men," she said. "I only had guys in my band, and I toured with guys and my tour manager was a guy and this and that."
Having the Jonas Brothers as your best friends would be pretty sweet – but why was it that she only stuck to guy friends? Well, she claims she didn't trust any girls in her life.
"I didn’t have any women in my life that I really trusted," the "Confident" singer added.
Although neither Demi or Selena Gomez have ever fully explained why they stopped being besties after their Disney days, we think it's safe to say there was a falling out – considering that Demi felt she couldn't trust Selena anymore.
"I made a specific change. There was a time I used to say that I just didn't get along with girls," she confessed.
The two are totally cool with each other now, which leads us to believe that Demi really ahd a change of heart. Perhaps Demi could have trust Selena – but there was something holding her back.
"I reevaluated why I didn't get along with girls, and I think it's because I didn't really have any in my life that I trusted. Now I've made it a point to surround myself with strong women and it's really made a difference in my life," Demi revealed.
That's the spirit.
"I had to make changes in my life to surround myself with influences and people that I could relate to," the Disney Channel alum spilled. "I’m really grateful that I did."
We're so proud of Demi that she is now empowered by women, rather than skeptical of them.
