Having a pet is one of life's greatest treasures, so just imagine your family's dog is basically a superhero and helps protect the President and those closest to the commander-in-chief. Well, that's the case for the adorable dog Max in Max 2: White House Hero, the action-packed movie that is perfect for everyone. Seriously. who doesn't love seeing a dog totally kick butt? And did we mention the one and only Francesca Capaldi stars in the flick too?
We caught up with the former Dog With a Blog starlet, and she told us tons of behind-the-scenes secrets from filming this movie and the first thing you'll notice about her "spunky and really precocious" character Alex, as Francesca described her, is that she has a Russian accent. Francesca doesn't have an accent IRL, so this was something totally new for her.
"It was really fun, I loved having the accent It was unlike anything I've ever done before, it was fun to try something new. When I was on Dog With a Blog, I did some different accents but I had never done Russian before, so it was all new," Francesca exclusively said to M. "When I found out that I had to be talking in a Russian accent, I was just like, 'oh, okay,' and I kind of just looked up some YouTube videos and thought, 'maybe I can just try it.' I was kind of nervous, because I didn't want to mess this up, but I just practiced."
And all the practice paid off, since her accent is pretty spot on if we say so ourselves! This movie has tons of action scenes, some of which Francesca got to take part in, which was a whole new world for her too. She even got to do some of her own stunts, including swimming in legit ice cold water.
"I was really excited at first and then one of the scenes, I fall into the river and this river was, since we filmed in Vancouver, it was really cold there," Francesca said. "A few days before, it was a glacier and it had just melted when we went to film there, The water was freezing, and so I got in and was like, 'wow this is actually really cold' and I had to wear a dry suit. It was so uncomfortable! But I was just having so much fun, so I loved it."
And one of her co-stars wasn't a fan of this frigid water either. One of the dogs who played Max had to be her partner in the scene, but he wasn't really concerned with rescuing Francesca, since he was totally over having to work in that cold water.
"During the one water scene where I was in the water and Max has to come rescue me, he was so cold too and all he wanted to do was jump out of the water. [He] was like, 'forget you, I'm leaving, this is cold' and so I was trying so hard to get to him so it looked liked he was saving me at least. It was just really funny because he was like, 'no thanks,'" she said.
Who can blame him really?!
Francesca went on to explain that she was nothing but impressed by her furry co-stars and how professional they were.
"What surprised me most is just how well trained they and sometimes, it's like they're not even dogs, they're like humans. It's so crazy to think of all they can do, I think they're more well trained than I am!" Francesca shared. "When filming this movie, there are four or five different dogs, they each have different abilities. Like one he was really great at jumping, one was a fast runner. They all just had different traits and strong suits and I thought that was interesting and was something I didn't know going into it."
These dogs are total pros who didn't come to mess around that's for sure!
