Miley Cyrus will be releasing a brand new song titled "Malibu" on May 11, and fans should expect it to be super personal.
The song is said to be the first single off a forthcoming album that will be released later this year, and it was inspired by the singer's relationship with Liam Hemsworth. The love song will be about their rekindled romance since their breakup back in 2013, and about how they were able to find their way back to each other.
“I never would’ve believed you if three years ago you told me I’d be here writing this song," she told Billboard in her cover story.
She wrote the song in a car on her way to a taping of The Voice, in which she is a judge.
"On the way to The Voice. I drive myself everywhere, but that day I decided to Uber, and I was trying not to sing out loud because someone else was in the car," she said.
She said she decided to write about their love since their relationship is always on the news and it takes some of the power away from the reports if the details of their love life come straight from the source. She said: "They’re going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam. So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, 'This is how I feel'?"
When they first broke up, Miley was too consumed in her career to really process the loss of their relationship. She said the reason they separated was so that she can change without the pressure of dating someone in the process.
"I needed to change so much. And changing with someone else not changing like that is too hard. Suddenly you’re like, 'I don’t recognize you anymore.' We had to refall for each other."
Aww, how sweet! The song will come out next week and we sure can't wait to read the full lyrics and would love to know how Liam reacted to it.
